Effect of different rice planting methods on the water, energy and carbon footprints of subsequent wheat

The rice-wheat rotation system is an important planting in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. Studies on effects different rice methods water, energy, carbon footprints subsequent wheat have rarely been reported. In this study, cultivation practices were investigated among systems including dry direct-seeded (DSR)-wheat rotation, wet (WSR)-wheat transplanted rice(TPR)-wheat rotation. Results showed that yield after DSR was 8,552 kg ha −1 , which 14.61 4.72% higher than yields WSR TPR, respectively. addition, water those while its energy production efficiencies net ecosystem economic benefits TPR. Notably, use fertilizers fuel are two major contributors to high inputs greenhouse gas emissions production. summary, has ecological benefits, we recommend it be promoted as preferred model areas.
